Wet Walnut Topping


Prep Notes

Glass jars with tight seals

Cooking Time

Less than 10 minutes

Yields

Approximately 2 cups

Ingredients

1 cup sugar

1 cup maple syrup*

1 cup water

2 cups walnuts, roughly chopped**

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Directions

1.  In a 3-quart saucepan, combine sugar, maple syrup, and water.  Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly.

2.  Bring to a boil.  Stop stirring and allow to boil for 2 - 3 minutes.

3.  Stir in the walnuts and bring back to boil, stirring constantly.

4.  Add butter and boil for 2 - 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

5.  Remove from heat.  Cool.  Serve warm or at room temperature.

6.  Store in glass jar with a tight seal at room temperature for 1 week or cold in refrigerator for 4 weeks.  Bring to room temperature before heating.

Notes

*Use any grade of maple syrup.

**I prefer to break the walnuts with my hands, but feel free to use any method to make this recipe.
